Sydney: Quality of Life is the Attraction

Should you visit Sydney?

If you’re coming to Australia for the first time, Sydney makes the perfect introduction. There are sites, the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but even more there is the pleasant weather, the scenic coastal location, and the laid-back pace of life.

How long should you stay in Sydney?

A few days in Sydney is ideal. From there, venture out and see the rest of the country. If you’re coming to Australia for two weeks, I suggest three days in Sydney to get used to the change in time and the change in season, if you’re coming from the Northern Hemisphere.

Where’s the best place to stay in Sydney?

Stay in either the Central Business District (CBD) or one of the adjacent neighborhoods. Sydney is a spread-out, much if it being suburbs. Most of what you will want to see is in or near the CBD.

What are the best hotels in Sydney?

Sydney’s high quality of life comes at a high cost, which is reflected in the cost of accommodation. Entry-level five-star properties ($) start at around USD250. There are several luxury options ($$) available for between USD400 and USD600. At the high-end ($$$), Sydney’s top hotels charge around USD900 per night.

My recommendations are below:

The high end ($$$)

Park Hyatt, The Rocks

Capella Sydney, CBD

Luxury Properties ($$)

Four Seasons, CBD

The Langham, The Rocks

Crown Towers, Barangaroo

Full-service 5-Star ($)

Hyatt Regency, Darling Harbour

The Fullerton, CBD

How do you get around Sydney?

If you’re a walker, you can easily make it around the CBD and nearby neighborhoods. There is also a number of public transportation options, including a metro and three light rail lines. Sydney also has an extensive network of ferries, which make for a scenic and enjoyable way of getting around the city.
